"There is no gene for the human spirit."

A clever tag from the 1992 film “Gattica” is a statement which each of us knows inherently to be true. If you’ve ever read the startling portrayal of a utopian society gone wrong in Aldous Huxley’s “Brave New World” (1932) you are familiar with Huxley’s prophetic predictions of SOMA as a mass produced psychotropic used to control society. In this brave new world, people are created on an assembly line. Citizens are typecast into their area of profession before birth and given drugs to control their emotions. There is no personal freedom. Now move to present time. Psychotropics like Prozac and Zoloft are being prescribed for everything from “finicky” babies to PMS. From “fidgety” children, to “cranky” seniors. If you are reading this, you probably know of someone who has been encouraged to turn to chemicals as a solution for the spirit.

Treating spiritual difficulties with drugs never works. It only suppresses the problem.

This anthology seeks to present your thoughts, ideas and experiences on this subject as well as underscore the power and passion of the being himself, who he really is, what he is capable of. It is our wish and mission to distribute this anthology as widely as possible through internet, readings, bookstores, doctor’s offices, churches, any appropriate place where these poems might be read and inspire change in the reader to seek alternate means.
